DCC Design Group was honored to be selected to speak at this year’s HCD Expo + Conference in New Orleans. We collaborated with our partners at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, the largest healthcare system in New Jersey, to compose a presentation on our recent work at their flagship New Brunswick campus, which included the creation of dedicated adult and pediatric sensory rooms as a part of their larger master plan Emergency Department expansion and renovation. The groundbreaking Pediatric Sensory Room was the focus of our session.

The presentation entitled:“Come To Your Senses: Integrating The Sensory Experience in the Clinical Setting”, pinpointed the thought process behind designing and building a state-of-the-art sensory room within a fully functioning Emergency Department that would accommodate the diverse needs of end users while also maximizing infection control. From determining the optimal location for the space, to integrating the best use of technology and materiality to promote healing and foster efficiency, to developing strategies for effective management of the project team, our educational session raised several questions regarding best practices for transforming such an integral space.

We were also fortunate to have some time to take in the sights, sounds, and delicious cuisine that New Orleans has to offer. We drew inspiration from street art, unique architectural elements, and the city’s rich culture. Overall, the event was a big step for DCC, and a valuable learning experience for all.

We // Inspired. Engaged. (and left) Transformed.
