The new 16,000 sf Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, is a re-purposed unit that demonstrates how the thoughtful transformation of an existing space can have a powerful impact on the consumer experience. The unit was featured on Medical Construction & Design Magazine’s website in October 2019. The project feature highlights the unique shape of the unit, and focuses on the design solutions that promote more efficient staff flow and foster patient-family engagement and privacy.

“The unit features an unconventional shape inspired by a butterfly’s wing that removes distinct physical boundaries between the care team and the public circulation to allow for greater collaboration and accessibility.”
